Ouachita School District (OSD) strives for excellence in providing a secure, friendly, and welcoming environment to promote a love of learning for students to carry with them throughout their lives after graduation. We educate all students by establishing relationships that build a culture of teamwork, integrity, and high expectations.
The District Board of Directors and administration along with community partners have taken measures in making safety a top priority to ensure the wellbeing of our students, faculty and visitors at all times. We have made the investment of the installation of a new security system at the high school and the hiring of School Resource Officer (SRO), Eric Fain, who was hired in January of this year to provide a qualified police officer to assist in security and safety throughout our district. OSD also ensures the social and emotional safety of our students by housing Therapeutic Family Services (TFS) on our campus. TFS works closely with students to provide affordable, ethical, and high-quality behavioral health services. We also advocate for our students by assisting our free lunch students to receive SNAP benefits so they are able to receive meals during the summer months.
We have implemented resources for continuing education, professional development and plans for teachers, staff and administrators to set our students up for success in and out of the classroom. Our district is a Professional Learning Community (PLC) involved in the State’s System of Support which supports and partners with the Arkansas Department of Education to initiate and sustain our PLC. Our teams have received districtwide coaching as well as leadership, math, and English Language Arts coaching in our elementary school. We applied and received the Successful Outcomes for Arkansas Readers (SOAR) grant for the sole purpose of advancing literacy skills and development. This grant has allowed us to purchase high quality instructional materials for all students in kindergarten through 12th grade. It has also allowed us to support our teachers in ongoing professional development. Ouachita has also purchased cutting edge technology with the purchase of BenQ interactive panels for all teachers.
OSD values high expectations and that is evident in many ways. For the last several years our Land Judging Teams in our Agri program have been State champions and have been to Nationals many times. Our girls basketball team has qualified for regionals this year and over multiple years. We take pride in the fact that we have the 3rd overall state golf winner and a high school student who will compete at the National Spelling Bee in Atlanta, Georgia. Our district is ranked number two in our regional educational coop according to US News and World report.
Ouachita School District is excited to be a safe learning environment where ALL students learn at high levels and are prepared and equipped to meet their goals. We invite families to join our team! Apply for school choice by May 1. We would love to have you as part of our Warrior Team!
